Galactorrhea What Is It

Galactorrhea is the extraction of the milk, colostrum or milk-like liquid from the breasts. This process is quite normal when you are a pregnant of breastfeeding the baby. But sometimes it can occur without being pregnant of breastfeeding, it has no connection with lactation and in such cases this process is pathological and requires treatment. It is considered to be so after 5 months after breastfeeding ends.

Let's figure out the main reasons why galactorrhea can begin. The lactation in a female body is regulated by hormones, so the main reasons are usually lay in its imbalance. But sometimes the doctor cannot find the reason why it began, in such cases it's called idiopatic galactorrhea. Still the most common reasons of its appearance are any diseases that influence hormonal production, their number is very big.

So, the variety of risk factors requires total and deep diagnostics and not only in gyn care sphere. If the reason of galactorrhea appearance isn't found, the doctor usually appoints treatment that lowers the prolactine level, usually it's helpful enough to stop this process.
